It’s still January, which means that it’s still cold and dark in most of the country, that your commitment to your New Year’s resolutions might already be faltering, and that there are still several weeks to go if you’re doing a Dry January. For the past few years, HBO has been releasing new seasons of Game of Thrones on an annual basis, although last year’s release was delayed slightly. However its delay pales in comparison to the upcoming eighth and final season of the series, which HBO has confirmed will air in 2019 . Prior to this, it was speculated that it would be released in 2019 according to the show’s actress, Sophie Turner, who had told Variety that production on season eight had only begun in October 2017 and is expected to last until mid-2018, meaning that a release in 2018 would be very unlikely, thus delaying it to 2019. It is unclear why the show’s creators have taken longer to complete season 8 compared to the previous seasons, but hopefully it will be worth it. The final season is also expected to comprise of less episodes than the previous seasons, 6 to be exact, although we have heard that season 8 is expected to be “bigger than ever”.
