Yes, You Can Catch Insanity

In 1994, Susan Swedo, a researcher at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) in Bethesda, Maryland, had a hunch that there might be an immunological explanation for obsessive-compulsive disorder. As a model, she was studying a phenomenon known as Sydenham’s chorea, or St. Vitus’ dance. First described centuries ago, Sydenham’s chorea is a rare manifestation of rheumatic fever that affects children almost exclusively. It is a disconcerting, unmistakable illness to witness. Children are overcome by rapid, uncontrollable jerking of the hands, feet, and face, contorting their bodies in a distorted, disturbing “dance.” Sydenham’s chorea is caused by molecular mimicry gone wrong. Molecular mimicry generally works like a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Streptococcus bacilli have thrived through the eons by cloaking themselves in proteins that resemble their host’s own cells. Disguised, it evades the immune system just long enough to establish an infection. But sometimes this tactic ...

Relationship Let's try Think again

It is probably the hardest resolution I have made for myself, but I believe I need to spend time to form validated opinions around these three topics and ensure my actions are fostering a world I want to live in. At the bare minimum, I want to consider the consequences of my current behaviour. To kickstart the process I took the time to define how I see the state of technology, inequality and norms at the beginning of 2018. When I read this post in one year, I hope to be embarrassed of my lack of knowledge, but let’s get started. writer by  Kristoffer Tjalve Relationship Let's try Think again My relationship with technology With technology everywhere we are increasingly questioning where we are left off: The largest technology companies possess a power leaving most nation states powerless and desperately competing for attention and investments. Today they are not only market leaders, they are market creators. The success of the selected few technology companies is dr...

Game Of Thrones Season 8 Will Air In 2019

For the past few years, HBO has been releasing new seasons of Game of Thrones on an annual basis, although last year’s release was delayed slightly. However its delay pales in comparison to the upcoming eighth and final season of the series, which HBO has confirmed will air in 2019 . Prior to this, it was speculated that it would be released in 2019 according to the show’s actress, Sophie Turner, who had told Variety that production on season eight had only begun in October 2017 and is expected to last until mid-2018, meaning that a release in 2018 would be very unlikely, thus delaying it to 2019. It is unclear why the show’s creators have taken longer to complete season 8 compared to the previous seasons, but hopefully it will be worth it. The final season is also expected to comprise of less episodes than the previous seasons, 6 to be exact, although we have heard that season 8 is expected to be “bigger than ever”. Game of Thrones was also 2017’s most torrented TV series, ...

I quit my job

I quit my job and I have one year to get to profitability I have a dream I want to ship products and earn $1,000 a month doing it. Why $1,000? I’m currently living in Bali, where I can live comfortably off of $1,000 per month. This isn’t San-Francisco or Dubai where $1,000 moves quickly. In Bali, $1,000 can pay for your rent, scooter, eating out three meals a day and most importantly all the coffee you could possibly drink. OMFG STOP! Mr. Aj if he is reading this he is probably facepalming because he said “OMFG STOP” to a similar guy. But how do you actually do that? Do you really need to be a domain knowledge expert with 1,000 years of experience prior to creating your startup? Should you do it AirBnB style and work on a single product launch for two years and don’t give-up? Do I create one new start up every single day, throwing virtual spaghetti at the wall and hoping something would eventually stick? These questions are the start u...

4 Best Movie Live

It’s still January, which means that it’s still cold and dark in most of the country, that your commitment to your New Year’s resolutions might already be faltering, and that there are still several weeks to go if you’re doing a Dry January. When faced with hardships like these, I find the best course of action is to retreat to a bed or couch and just watch movie marathons until the problems go away and/or it’s Spring. Many of the big streaming services added entire movie franchises to their libraries in the first month of 2018, meaning an escapist movie marathon is only a few clicks away. Here’s what we’re recommending. The Batman Series (credit: Warner Bros.) Netflix added a  bunch of Batman titles   to its library, but only one Christopher Nolan movie,  Batman Begins . This is fine. Chances are you’ve seen  The Dark Knight  more than once, but when’s the last time you watched the old school Batman movies? Tim Burton’s 1989 movie holds up despite having...
